Clear the Runway: Mychael Knight Debuts New Collection

Fashion’s Night Out made its way to Atlanta Friday night as upscale retailers and boutiques participated in the second annual event created by the fashion industry (and the legendary Anna Wintour) to encourage shopping and help stimulate the fashion economy. The talk of the town however was the new collection by Atlanta native Mychael Knight.

The season three Project Runway finalist held an invite-only runway show Friday at popular restaurant Aja where he premiered his new signature dress collection Two² (two-squared) for Atlanta’s fashion elite. As expected, the exquisite dress designs were nothing less than spectacular. His keen eye for detail and expert sewing skills resulted in beautifully hand-crafted designs that any woman would be eager to wear.

The unique element about the Two² collection is it is one dress worn four different ways with two different colors. This is achieved through Knight’s use of reversible jersey/Lycra fabrics, front and back zippers and the classic colors of red and black. The idea behind the innovative design came from Mychael Knight wanting women to have an affordable, chic wardrobe staple that could be worn many ways and flatter various body types. It also retails for $80, which makes this a must-have for any closet. Known for glamorous all-around presentation, everything about the runway show was top-notch, from the setting, production and the music.

A fan since his days on the hit reality show, I was quite impressed by the dress and the overall presentation. Celebrities such Jennifer Hudson, Kelly Rowland and Ciara are also fans of the designer and have worn his clothes to red carpet events and on magazine covers. Up next for Knight is continuing to promote his latest fall 2010 collection Carte Blanche. To purchase the Two² collection or any other designs, visit mychaelknight.com.
