Vodka Tasting at the Dallas Opera’s Baritones and Beachballs Event Series

The hottest weekend of the summer led most of us to seek refuge from the scorching temps.

Thankfully, there’s always something cool going on around Dallas to help beat the heat. Sunday marked the Dallas Opera’s final tasting event in their summer series “Baritones and Beachballs.” Fans of the performance center gathered at the W Hotel to enjoy a Russian-themed vodka sampling in the name of the Boris Godunov opera, presented this past spring and discussed in the summer lecture series. With shots of Stoli and Russian Standard circulating steadily along with juices and berry-infused ice water, guests mingled with their cocktails in hand, tasting spoonfulls of tomatoes and watermelon and tossing the Dallas Opera beachballs around in blessfully airconditioned environs.

The Dallas Opera’s 2010-2011 season kicks off Friday, October 22nd with Mozart’s tale of the legendary lethario Don Juan in Don Giovanni. The theme this year is “Dangerous Desires,” and continues with performances of Anna Bolena, a continuence of Gaetano Donizetti’s “Tudor Trilogy.” All shows will be presented at the prestigous Margot and Bill Winspear Opera House at the AT&T Performing Arts Center.
