Our Haute 100 list details the accomplishments of the most influential people in each of our markets—Miami, New York, Los Angeles, and San Francisco. These people continue to make moves, so rather than waiting for the next Haute 100 issue to come out, we thought we’d provide you with regular updates on those Haute 100 members who are making headlines. On our Haute 100 Miami list is philanthropist Nancy Brinker.
Company: Susan G. Komen for the Cure
What Makes Her Haute: After completing her terms as U.S. ambassador to Hungary and U.S. chief of protocol, the phenom fundraiser is returning to lead the nonprofit that she founded in memory of her sister. Susan G. Komen for the Cure is America’s No. 1 private fundraiser for breast cancer research.
What Makes Her Haute Now: KFC presented philanthropist Nancy Brinker’s foundation Susan G. Komen for the Cure with a check for more than $4.2 million, the largest donation in the foundation’s history. The money was raised by KFC franchisees and restaurant operators during the company’s “Buckets for the Cure” campaign. KFC dedicated special pink buckets to the campaign, with KFC restaurant operators donating 50 cents for each bucket they purchased. 5,000 KFC restaurants raised a total of $4,249,539 during the months of April and May. The funds will be used to sponsor local breast cancer education, screening and treatment programs.
