Diane von Furstenberg: Her Highness Has (Finally) Arrived

With a twist and a knot of one of her eponymous wrap dresses, a woman dressed in Diane von Furstenberg morphs into something above and beyond. Something beautiful, sure; but a certain charge takes hold in her personality, one that puts an extra ounce of confidence in her step and a self-assured glamour in her feet.

Perhaps it’s in the fit: the wrap dress, a signature von Furstenberg design since the 1970s, is flattering on everybody and every body. Perhaps it’s in the fabric: bold patterns and solids alike rest contentedly on folds of rich silk jersey and other buttery soft blends, ensuring a kaleidoscopic delight to all of the senses. Or, perhaps it’s in the history: von Furstenberg paved the way for contemporary American designers everywhere, proving that great style could emerge from somewhere other than Parisian couture houses.

For whatever reason, Bostonians now have a reason to celebrate Diane von Furstenberg – the icon and the brand – with a brand new boutique on Newbury Street. (Previously, Beantown fashionistas had to get their DvF fixes from specialty boutiques and high end department stores.) The store, which opened the last weekend of July, boasts decór akin to her New York City studios, with pink ottomans and zebra rugs setting the scene for DvF’s collection (wrap dresses included, of course). Veteran customers will appreciate closer access to their beloved designer; freshly minted cadets will enjoy a new-found fashion sense within walking distance of their favorite lunchtime hot spots.

Simple. Stunning. Style. Welcome, Boston, to your new religion.

Diane von Furstenberg is located at 73 Newbury Street, Boston
