Despite an ever-increasing array of dining options in all categories, Angelenos can be a very persistent bunch, loyal to their favorites through thick and thin. Some of these places (which shall remain nameless) are so aware of this good fortune that they don’t even bother trying. Others, like those below, continue to win new fans even as they keep the old.

Pacific Dining Car

Probably one of the only spots in the world where you can get 5-star service at 3 AM, this elegant family-owned downtown legend belies its 24/7 status with great dry-aged steaks and a respectable wine list. They even offer a private post-dinner shuttle to downtown events. The word ‘beloved’ doesn’t begin to describe it.

Pacific Dining Car is located at 1310 West 6th Street, 213.483.6000

There is another location with equally good food (if not quite the same atmosphere) at 2700 Wilshire Boulevard, Santa Monica, 310.453.4000

Currently enjoying the top spot on LA’s very active Yelp pages, Urasawa’s modern take on sushi is not a casual affair, but clearly does not disappoint.

Urasawa is located at 218 N Rodeo Drive, Beverly Hills, 310.247.8939

Parkway Grill

With a market-driven, seasonal creative American menu (from air-dried duck to bee pollen-dusted halibut) augmented by their own herb garden, Parkway Grill is nevertheless most beloved for its steaks and whole catfish in a woody, welcoming atmosphere. The wine list enjoys a Wine Spectator Award of Excellence.

Parkway Grill is located at 510 S Arroyo Parkway, Pasadena, 626.795.1001
Nobu Malibu

Nothing fancy about this outpost of the Matsuhisa empire, just excellent sushi in a cozy room and patio where you’re likely to see some very famous regulars.

Nobu Malibu is located at 3835 Cross Creek Road, Malibu 310.317.9140

Angelini Osteria

When no less a name than Wolfgang Puck himself swears by a place, you can take it to heart that it promises a consistent, solid experience. Gino Angelini has served Pavarotti and Fellini as well as Pope John Paul II, and was the opening chef of Brentwood’s also beloved Vincenti, before finally venturing out to serve his own creative rustic menu here.

Angelini Osteria is located at 7313 Beverly Boulevard, 323.297.0070
