Haute Event: VH1 Do Something Awards

On Monday, at the Hollywood Palladium, DoSomething.org and VH1 partnered to present The Do Something Awards, honoring young people’s commitment to social change. Hosted by Glee’s Jane Lynch, the awards featured performances by Natasha Bedingfield and Travie McCoy and Bruno Mars.

On hand to receive awards were Kathy Griffin, Snoop Dogg, Christina Applegate and Alyssa Milano, but the evening’s big winner was Jessica Posner, who received a $100,000 prize. Posner, who’s 23, co-founded Shining Hope for Communities to combat gender inequity and poverty in Kibera. Through the Kibera School for Girls, the first free school in Kibera, and the Shining Community Center, Jessica has helped over 5,700 residents gain education and employment.
