Our Haute 100 list details the accomplishments of the most influential people in each of our markets—Miami, New York, Los Angeles, and San Francisco. These people continue to make moves, so rather than waiting for the next Haute 100 issue to come out, we thought we’d provide you with regular updates on those Haute 100 members who are making headlines. On our Haute 100 New York list is Marc Jacobs, the creative director for Louis Vuitton, owner of three personal fashion lines, and literary enthusiast.
Company: Marc Jacobs Inc.
What Made HIm Haute: He has built an eponymous fashion empire while simultaneously acting as creative director of Louis Vuitton. In 2009, Jacobs was ranked 15th on Out magazine’s annual list of “50 Most Powerful Gay Men and Women in America.” He married Brazilian advertising executive Lorenzo Martone in February.
What Makes Him Haute Now: Worth an estimated $5 billion, the Marc Jacobs fashion label is taking its empire one step further by opening an e-commerce store in September. The man leading marcjacobs.com, Marc Jacobs, will attract those fashion savvy costumers by providing exclusive online merchandise. Although busy with four lines — Louis Vuitton, The Marc Jacobs Collection, Marc by Marc Jacobs, and Little Marc — the fashion genius has followed his literary ambitions and is set to open a new bookstore in Manhattan. The store, which is rumored to be called Book Marc, will open in winter 2010 on the popular Bleecker Street. Voted by Time Magazine in 2010 as one of the 100 most influential people in the world, Marc Jacobs is undoubtedly one of the most revered designers today.
