Art Project Los Angeles: Singular Cause, Singular Event

It’s a rare occasion for me to post two blogs in one day, but this weekend’s APLA event can’t go without notice. One of the biggest social and charity events of the year here is the Art Project Los Angeles Auction—a collaboration of AIDS Project Los Angeles and Bonham & Butterfield auction house.

APLA, for those who don’t know, is one of the first and most successful AIDS awareness and fundraising organizations in the world—creators of the first AIDS Walk.

This year, over two nights (Friday sold out a long time ago, but some in-person tickets for Saturday are still available from 6 pm), guests can mingle with friends, benefactors and APLA’s many VIP supporters over hosted cocktails and hors d’ouevres by Crumble Catering and entertainment by DJ Manny Patel.

Though the reception is from 7 to 10 pm tomorrow, the silent auction aspect of the event actually begins at 10 am, open to the public. Art being auctioned includes works by Andy Warhol, Keith Haring (above), Jean-Michel Basquiat, Ed Ruscha, and even Pablo Picasso.

Needless to say, APLA has been one of the most supported charities in the Entertainment industry. Committee members (who you can expect to see at the event) include Pamela Anderson, LeVar Burton, Joan Collins, Jennifer Love Hewitt, Ricki Lake, Mario Lopez, Debra Messing, Shirley MacLaine, Olivia Newton-John, Wendie Malick, and a lot of other top people both in front of and behind the cameras.

Bonhams & Butterfields is located at 7601 West Sunset Boulevard 866.679.0958
