Unveiled: The 2011 Porsche 911 GT2 RS

Hot off the Porsche concept board is the brand-new 2011 Porsche 911 GT2 RS. Lighter than its predecessor, but more powerful, the brand’s latest speed machine is sure to deliver a ride that will take drivers’ breath away.

Engineers at Porsche have whittled some pounds from the 911 GT2 to make the GT2 RS model about 154 pounds lighter, yet they kicked the power up a few notches to bring it to 620 horsepower. The result? One sleek lightning bolt of a sportscar. And while it’s hard to imagine this news getting any better, it does: the GT2 RS will also have a 5 percent better fuel economy over the 911 GT2.

Exclusively powered via the rear wheels, the car can still hit 60 miles per hour in a mere 3.4 seconds and achieve a top speed of 205 miles per hour. It’s true Porsche’s superstar, the Turbo S, accelerates to 60 miles per hour 0.3 seconds faster, but there’s no denying the Turbo’s top speed also maxes out well before 200 miles per hour, making the GT2 RS the first street-legal Porsche to exceed the 200 mark.

Love the sound of the GT2 RS so much already you have to have one? It’s time to call in your favors to whoever you know at Porsche, because the company plans to make only 500 models. Each will fetch approximately $245,000 and deliveries are scheduled to begin in October.
