It’s true there’s no shortage of nigiri and sashimi in Downtown Scottsdale, but how to choose among the many stellar venues? Well, deliberate no more. Here we’ve broken down a few options, so you’ll know just which hotspot to hit up, depending on your mood.

Pearl Sushi Lounge

Pearl is a great place to wind down the evening after attending an event around town and need to refuel. Open Monday through Sunday from 4 p.m. to close, Pearl boasts a menu chock-full of signature rolls and small plates your group can share, such as crispy calamari, Hawaiian tuna poke tacos, big eye tuna ceviche, and our favorite, the Pearl Bottle Rockets – shrimp, scallion, and cream cheese egg rolls with a peachy dipping sauce.

Pearl is located at 4252 N. Drinkwater Blvd. (480) 947-3275

RA Sushi

RA is a high-energy sushi bar and restaurant where the setting is chic, the food is always on point, and the atmosphere is, well – loud. It’s not a particularly great choice for a first date or talking business (unless yelling across the table to each other is your idea of a good time), but RA is a fun place for a lunch or a night out for drinks with close friends you see often and don’t need to catch up with. It’s also the place you want to go if you want to splurge for something more (way more) elaborate than the usual, as they have a number of specialty rolls that are superbly done. The Crazy Monkey roll is amazing, made with smoked salmon, mango, and cream cheese, then topped with avocado, tempura bits, and cashews, and finally drizzled with mango and sweet eel sauce. Perfectly salty and sweet.

RA is located at 3815 N. Scottsdale Road (480) 990-9256

Stingray Sushi

This is your command central of sushi locales for happy hour or talking business. The place has such a casual chic vibe that you can’t help but be relaxed as soon as you step through the door. The happy hour menu features specials on sake, sake carafes, specialty drinks, red and white wines, sushi rolls, and small plates such as chicken tempura and shrimp shumai. They serve a great selection of Asian beers, and have assorted sushi plates for two or more to split. The Hwe Do Bop includes assorted fresh fish, rice, a petite spring mix, and a spicy-sweet Korean pepper paste sauce. Regardless of what you order, rest assured each dish will come out of the kitchen looking like a artful masterpiece; the presentation here is fabulous.

Stingray is located at 4302 North Scottsdale Road (480) 941-4460

Sushi Roku

With additional locations already in Hollywood, Pasadena, Santa Monica, and Las Vegas, you know Sushi Roku has to be a top-tier sushi restaurant. Located adjacent to the W Scottsdale, the Scottsdale Sushi Roku is the place to see and be seen, and has ambiance to spare. Coincidentally, you want this to be your sushi hotspot of choice for dinner out on the town. In fact, we already know what you want to order: the chef’s multi-course Omakase, a delicious journey of textures and flavors. Here, expect to find limited selections of everything, but what they make, they make well. Be sure to inspect the list of tantalizing sakes available by the bottle.

Sushi Roku is located at 7277 E. Camelback Road (480) 970-2121
