Yet Another Local MJ Legend

Former Louis Vuitton protege gone indie rogue designer and reality star, Marc Jacobs recently opened a new boutique in the Windy City. Chicago is quickly gaining cred on the fashion radar with a smattering of other designer shops popping up in the area in the last two years, including Barneys and Jil Sander, as notably the first Jil Sander boutique to hit the US.

The Marc Jacobs Collection store took up permanent residence at the aforementioned posh Elysian Hotel in the Gold Coast. Signing a ten-year lease on the 2,700-sq.-ft. space, which will be located in the development’s Beaux Arts-style retail courtyard, Jacobs is excited to bring high couture to Chicago. Not to be confused with Marc by Marc Jacobs in Bucktown, which carries the designer’s more affordable diffusion line, Marc Jacobs Collection will carry only the highest of high lux, fresh-from-the-runway threads for men and women. Also at the store will be handbags, fragrances, art books, children’s clothing, umbrellas, wallets, and sunglasses

This collection store boasts high ceilings, striking black tile, plush brown carpeting, a kids’ section with one of the huge stuffed giraffes like in the New York Little Marc store, and a modern color scheme of purple, gold, black and dusky pink mosaics and pendant chandelier designed by Stephan Jaklitsch architects. Art for your eyes and skin.

With trendy Oak Street just a block away, your wallet is in for a little spring cleaning.
