How To Celebrate Tax Day in Miami

Didn’t get that exclusive invite to President Barack Obama’s ultra fancy VIP fundraiser at Emilio and Gloria Estefan’s manse on Thursday night? (We’re sure it was a simple mistake on the postmaster’s part.) And you can’t make it to the Adrienne Arsht Center for the Performing Arts to sing “Hail to the Chief” either? No worries. We’ve got plenty of other splendid ways for you to celebrate tax day.

For animal lovers, or those with an empathetic heart for our furry friends without a voice, Yappy Hour at Epic is where you’ll find many haute young philanthropists who aren’t so politically inclined. As we mentioned earlier in the month, pet authority Wendy Diamond is rolling into town and several of our favorite philanthropists are throwing a party to celebrate her book (It’s a Dog World: The Savvy Guide to Four-Legged Living), as part of her nationwide Yappy Hour Rescue Tour, which will be making stops in Miami, San Francisco, Boston, and Philadelphia. Tanya Clark, Katrina Campins, Karla Dascal, Elisa Gelb, Leslie Golan, Matt Heien, Jacqueline Powers, Annette Torres, Josette Wys and David Young—and their dogs—are hosting one haute soiree at Epic Hotel on Thursday, April 15.

For those of you not so inclined to romp around with Rover, the Design District is always a haute spot to pay attention to. Thursday night will be the premiere of Noche Latina at Maitardi, from 8 p.m. to midnight. What better way to celebrate the finale of 2009 tax reports than with live music and the chance to drink and dine under the stars in one of our favorite Miami enclaves?

Feeling a little beachy for the federal day that is not even considered a holiday? The fine folks over at The Angler’s Boutique Resort are hosting a tax relief party that is sure to help you let loose of your accounting woes with vodka-infused iced tea and sangria. If a liquid dinner isn’t quite what you had in mind, the Front Porch Supper Series is always an option.
