Get Haute in the Springtime

The sun is shining, the birds are chirping, the flowers are blooming and finally it feels like spring is in the air. It is time to get off the couch because this summer you will not be the one to do a cannonball and splash all the water out of the pool, if you get my drift. It is time to motivate and enjoy the beauty that surrounds you with some fresh air and exhilarating exercise. I say, lets live life with childlike abandonment and enjoy every second of it.

When I first moved to California, I lived at the beach and could not purchase a beach cruiser fast enough. SoCal residents are lucky enough to be able to ride their bikes year round, and 30 minutes on that bad boy can burn about 177 calories.

Upon purchasing my lovely pink beach cruiser with beautiful white butterflies decorating it, I strolled up to the cash register and my heart began to race; there in front of me were roller skates. Not only would I be living out my favorite childhood pastime, but I could also have fun while burning some calories, which keeps my cardio ADD at bay. It may sound silly, but there is nothing better then skating around burning about 207 calories in 30 minutes.

Whether you are joining the masses and hiking LA’s Runyon Canon or the Rainforest in Costa Rica, it is a great way to burn at the very least 177 calories in 30 minutes. It is not only a great cardiovascular workout, but it can also be a total body workout depending on the terrain.

If you are lucky enough to have a day off from work on Saturdays and find yourself celebrating by hitting up a local watering hole, get a group of friends together instead and visit a local park. Make teams and rotate between different events. Playing basketball for an hour can burn up to 355 calories, while a good game of tennis burns a grand total of about 414 calories in an hour. If you want to bring it back old school, kickball is the way to go and in an hour can burn 460 calories.

With spring here and summer just around the corner getting outside and breathing fresh air is a wonderful way to start getting rid of winter weight. If you do not have the time to hike, bike, or roller skate there is always a brisk walk with your significant other. Getting in two miles of a brisk walk in 30 minutes is a wonderful end to a very busy day. Until next time my friends, visit www.raylenebartolacci.com. To health and wellness, Salute.
