A wedding is a slightly different affair in the Middle East. Often honoring traditions passed down over centuries, weddings in the Middle East are more than just a contract between two people but between families and society. The cost of a wedding in the Gulf States is now one of the highest in the world; families pay for celebration almost as if it were an investment and plan accordingly for the wedding day in order to make it a true work of art. Even during a period of economic challenge, the bridal market in the Middle East surely has not withered.

Local Emiratis and expatriates eagerly assembled at the entrance of the Dubai Bridal show this past Wednesday to attend one of the region’s largest bridal and fashion events. Held at the Dubai International Exhibition Center through Saturday, April 10, more than 300 local and international exhibitors were present for women in anticipation of their wedding day and for girls who have a love for jewelry and pretty things.

Fashion shows of haute couture evening wear, bridal gowns, abayas and jelibayas take place each evening featuring the designs of some of the hottest new designers in the Middle East and India. Renowned Bollywood designer and celebrity favorite, Vikram Phadnis presented a preview fashion show of his latest bridal and evening wear collection featuring colorful and lively designs suitable to the UAE market. Emirati designers and sisters Reem and Hind Belfajla showcase their latest collection of abayas. Casual and light, their latest line is full of bright colors for spring and summer.

This year chefs from the Shangri-La Hotel in Dubai have prepared a 16-foot wedding cake to be put on display. The tallest wedding cake ever to be seen in Dubai, the culinary masterpiece stands as a focal point in the Hotel Zone where brides can discuss plans to host their wedding and honeymoon with a number of distinguished hoteliers.

The event coincided with Dubai Fashion Week offering visitors a variety of different venues as well as fashion and beauty possibilities. The Dubai Bridal show is  real haven for the bride to be. You will easily get lost among all of the sparkly pretty accessories, extravagant dresses, and delicious bridal sweets.
