The wait is over—Mercedes Benz is finally unveiling the redesigned, highly coveted MY2011 R-Class at the New York Auto Show on March 31. The name that has become synonymous with vehicular luxury and status has done it again with this remodeled creation that is inspired by the Mercedes-Benz sedans and SUV models.
Buyers will be able to enjoy the spaciousness of an SUV without sacrificing the safety and style people count on from a classic Mercedes Benz sedan, and this sleek structure is predicted to pique the interest of mostly young and trendy buyers.
In addition to attracting a younger market segment, the 2011 R-Class is expected to further cement Mercedes Benz’s position as a power player in the luxury vehicle market—the predicted success of this model is a challenge to other brands to step up their game. It’s certainly hard to compete with a vehicle that is lauded for revamping the grille, bumpers, hood, fenders, headlights, side mirrors, wheel designs, rear bumper cover, integrated exhaust pipes, and LED taillights of previously successful models.
There are certain options that are as of now unavailable for the U.S. market, such as the short-wheelbase version or the AMG interior sport package featuring black leather with contrasting stitching and metallic accents. However, all you fellow Americans out there, don’t panic. Our options include adaptive cruise control, an adjustable air suspension, a blind-spot warning system, and 20-inch wheels and tires.
Should you like what you see enough at the New York Auto Show to make a purchase, there are two very important decisions you must consider: First, you must decide between the two carryover engine choices– a 268-horsepower 3.5-liter V6, or the 210-hp 3.0-liter V6 turbodiesel. And secondly—and this is perhaps the most important decision you will make regarding your new, haute, and very luxurious automobile—would you prefer a walnut or a eucalyptus trim? Think long and hard, but either way we’re warning you: prepare yourself for some very jealous stares.
