Footwear-fashion pioneer Donald J Pliner celebrated 20 years of success this past Saturday at Aventura Mall, where a star-studded guest list saw an extravagant display of past and present designs. Pliner and his wife Lisa, creative director of the brand, hosted the event that toured attendees through 20 years of designs. From sketches to finished products, guests witnessed a lifetime’s worth of work from the world-renowned designer. The décor consisted of a vast array of African-themed masks, horns, and other textiles that Mr. Pliner acquired throughout his travels.
Along with the visual display, Elite Catering tempted the taste buds of the invited guests with hors d’oeuvres and V Georgio quenched their thirsts with smooth and sweet cocktails. All proceeds from the designer shopping event went to JAFCO, Jewish Adoption and Foster Care Options, Inc., a non-profit organization established to help at-risk children and their families.
The shopping soiree also highlighted some current designs such as the Lisa for Donald J Pliner line, designed by Pliner’s wife Lisa; these shoes provide women with the sexy and stylish appeal of a heel blended with the comforting and casual feel of a sneaker. Mrs. Pliner explains that several bad experiences with her favorite heels were the inspiration behind this creation, “Like most women, I covet shoes, but finding a pair of high heels that keep up with my busy lifestyle is quite challenging. “For the launch of Lisa for Donald J Pliner, I found it necessary to incorporate an invisible traction platform that gives the preferred height women want along with providing support – making it the ideal fashionable yet functional anti-slip shoe for the on-the-go woman.”
