Russia’s World-Famous Bolshoi Ballet Comes to Orange County

For world-class dancers who set the bar in the art of ballet, we look to Russia’s legendary Bolshoi Ballet, one of the oldest dance troupes in the world. Dance aficionados will want to don their eveningwear this week and take in the great Bolshoi at the stunning Orange County Performing Arts Center for what is sure to be the finest rendition of the timeless Don Quixote performed by their superstar dancers.

Under the direction of the Bolshoi’s Artistic Director Yuri Burlaka, this colorful Spanish classic will run from Wednesday, Feb. 24 through Sunday, Feb. 28, and highlight principal dancers Maria Alexandrova, Mikhail Lobukhin, Anna Nikulina, Ivan Vasiliev and Natalia Osipova.

Combining love, chivalry, sword fights, and deception in a vivacious Spanish setting, Don Quixote is “what the Bolshoi does best,” according to The Washington Post. This comes as no surprise, seeing as the full-length production originally premiered in Moscow in 1869.

Expect to be transfixed by the splendor and beauty of this almost-three-hour ballet.  A visit to the newly renovated and expanded Orange County Performing Arts Center is a must, as it is now a part of the largest performing arts plazas in the nation.
