One Haute Toque

With the Food Network South Beach Wine & Food Festival only one week away, local Miami chefs have been soaking up the spotlight. Predicting the trends before they happen, Haute Living Miami caught up with many of our resident favorites to talk about their passion for haute cuisine.

Michelle Bernstein is one such chef who has been showing up in national headlines on the web and in print lately. By now most of us know the background of her story which includes hanging up her professional ballerina slippers to dive head first into all that heating up the kitchen entails.

In the article “Culinary Power Players,” Chef Bernstein reveals some of her favorite places to dine, (besides her own, which include Michy’s, Sra. Martinez, and Omphoy Ocean Resort in Palm Beach). Would you believe that the culinary genius chows down on hot dogs in Central Park, street food in Malaysia, and at the fish market in Tokyo? She also tells readers about one of the most elaborate meals that she has ever prepared in one of her restaurants: “A 10-course tasting menu to a group of men that had an evening called ‘Boys Night Out.’ They wanted the best, so I went all out. It was at Michy’s, and I spared no expense.”

Check out the latest issue of Haute Living Miami to find out where we would find her on a Friday night when not in her kitchen, some of the strangest requests she’s had at the restaurants, what she never leaves home without, and her predictions for Miami’s restaurant scene and culinary trends in 2010.
