Delaware brewer Dogfish Head recently announced that it would be involved in a rooftop brewery and restaurant atop Mario Batali and Joe Bastianich’s flatiron food center Eataly, in Manhattan, which is expected to open this summer.

The concept behind the Eataly is to produce authentic American and Italian cuisine, created by Chef Mario Batali, that is paired with specially brewed beers by four different, international, brew houses.

According to a recent press release, the idea behind the Eataly is to create an “artisanal old world Italian craft brewery that just happens to be located on a rooftop in Manhattan,”

Four master brewers are working on recipes for the Eatalys’ house beers.  The beers will feature both American and Italian ingredients, and the promise to be unique, refreshing, and affordable. Each hand-crafted brew is expected to be unpasteurized, unfiltered, naturally carbonated, and hand-pulled through traditional beer engines in order to provide would-be drinkers with the most authentic and pure presentation imaginable.

The rooftop restaurant project will pair rustic homemade beer with rustic food that is served in a hip outside rooftop setting. So move on over Shake Shack, you have some serious outdoor competition coming into Madison Square Park.
