Two “For Sale” signs have gone up in the Holmby Hills area this week. Both residences are considered classics, with interesting histories to boot. The first, listed by Internet heavyweight David Bohnett, has a price tag of $18.9 million. The other, owned by Producer-director Bud Yorkin and Actress-slash-wife Cynthia Sikes, is going for a heftier price of $49.5 million.
Bohnett’s estate, a four bedroom, four and a half bathroom house, was originally designed by A. Quincy Jones for famed actor Gary Cooper in 1955. The wood, stone, and glass house is 5,721 square feet and sits on a 2.5 acre property. Interior features include a raised stone fireplace, terrazzo floors, and wall-sized windows looking out to the pool area. It also features a gym and several walk-in closets.
Bohnett himself co-founded GeoCities and is CEO of OVGuide.com, an Internet directory and search engine. He has also been instrumental in many Web-based projects and businesses. GeoCities currently holds a $3.57 billion stock and was acquired by Yahoo in 1999.
Bud Yorkins’ estate encompasses 1930s Hollywood and measures at about 11,900 square feet. The traditional gated home was originally built in 1938 and is a five bedroom, 7 and a half bathroom estate. The 2.75 acres it sits on features a tennis court, a swimming pool, a gym, and a beautiful rose garden. The master bedroom alone comes equipped with his and hers bathrooms, walk-in closets, and sun rooms with vaulted ceilings.
Another interesting fun fact: The estate was originally built by famed gangster Bugsy Siegel, though he never lived in it. It has had many other notable owners such as cosmetics icon Max Factor. Feel free to stow this info away in your arsenal of interesting conversation pieces, it’s a keeper.
Yorkin has been involved in many noteworthy projects, including hit shows such as All in the Family and Sanford and Son. Yorkin has also founded Tandem Productions, Bud Yorkin Productions and TOY Productions throughout the years. Sikes has an impressive resume as well, appearing on The Young and the Restless, JAG and starring in St. Elsewhere.
