Twitter Expands Offices with $3 million Lease

Just a short three months after Twitter tripled its San Francisco headquarters, the social media conglomerate has done it again. According to the San Francisco Business Times, Twitter has just signed a 41-month lease worth more than $3 million to further expand its SoMa offices.

The lease is for the entire third floor of the 795 Folsom Street building and with just under 32,000 square feet of new office space, Twitter now has a total of 63,222 square feet in that building alone, which is enough to accommodate 350 employees.

For those who like simple number games, Twitter currently has 156 employees and 23 openings (according to its website), so with all of the new space, it looks like they will be expanding their employee base quite substantially in the near future.

The move to this building was first reported in October when Twitter moved its headquarters from 539 Bryant Street where they had a mere 11,000 square feet of office space. Westcore Properties owns the new building, and their vice president of acquisitions, Victoria Burkheimer said, “Twitter is a fast-growing company that needed space that would accommodate its growth efficiently, while maintaining a central San Francisco location.” She added, “The building’s desirable south of Market location, coupled with its high-tech feel including exposed ceilings and creative finishes, were key drawing points for Twitter.”

Twitter’s user base sky-rocketed from 3 million to 40 million in a little more than a year, yet Twitter reportedly has “yet to creative revenue from the traffic through advertising or fees, although already rumors are swirling that it may file for an initial public offering in 2010.”

795 Folsom is also home to Bebo, SBC Global, and Regus Business Center offices.
