MOCA To Host Official Bohemian Bash Fundraiser Kick-Off Party at the Catalina Hotel & Beach Club Thursday

The Museum of Contemporary Art in North Miami will host a fundraiser kick-off bash at the Catalina Hotel & Beach Club Thursday. Local celebs and patrons of the arts will be in attendance.

All of south Florida is buzzing about MOCA’s Bohemian Bash, the Museum of Contemporary Art’s annual February fundraiser, this year celebrating the spirit of creativity.  To launch the event, MOCA will host a kick-off party on Thursday, January 21st at The Catalina Hotel & Beach Club, 1756 Collins Avenue, from 8:00 P.M. to 10:00 P.M., open to the public.

The Bohemian Bash fundraiser will take place a few weeks following the kick-off party on February 20, 2010. The Catalina’s Maxine Bistro & Bar and bamboo pool garden will be transformed into a series of surreal environments with live performances and acts. Guests will receive palm and tarot card readings while DJ Faux Real will spin some of the hottest tracks. While enjoying cocktails courtesy of Grey Goose and delicious hors d’oeuvers, party guests will be able to purchase their tickets for Bohemian Bash.

Co-Chairs for the kick-off and Bohemian Bash events are Catalina Hotel owners Alan and Diane Lieberman and Barbara Herzberg. The beautiful WSVN anchor, Belkys Nerey, will serve as honorary chair.

The Bohemian Bash takes its inspiration from the Dadaist art movement of the early 20th century that embraced the sense of the absurd and the role of the unconventional in artistic creation.  Among the unexpected elements planned by Miami artists Kevin Arrow, Bhakti Baxter, Beatriz Monteavaro, and Wendy Wischer are an upside down lounge complete with furniture dangling from the ceiling, an indoor garden cafe populated by phantasmagoric flora and fauna, an Op Art room, and  Madness night club.

Over 800 guests are expected to attend. Tickets to Bohemian Bash are available in packages of ten at the discounted price of $1,250. Sponsors include Alan & Diane Lieberman / The Catalina and Riviera South Beach Hotels, Barbara Z. Herzberg, Smith Barney/Morgan Stanley, King Jewelers, Dr. Shulamit and Chaim Katzman, Janice and Alan Lipton, Ray Ellen, and Allan Yarkin.
