California Wineries to Exercise New Regulations

It’s not an easy task to find out whether or not the California wine you’re sipping on is eco-friendly. Some might even say you need to have a degree in viticulture or actually be a wine maker. The reason for this is that there are way too many shades of ‘green’ in wine making: biodynamic vs. organic vs. organically grown grapes.

However, officials from the industry-backed Wine Institute took the time today to outline the steps growers and winemakers need to take in order to call themselves ‘sustainable.’ These regulations cover everything from energy consumption to water use.

California being the world’s fourth-largest producer, will have two-thirds of its wineries participating in the program.
