Billionaire Russian Oligarch, Roman Abramovich, Spared No Expense at Bash in St. Barts

More than 250 celebs turned out for high roller, Roman Abramovich’s, New Year’s bash in St. Barts where they noshed on millions of dollars worth of gourmet snacks (we’re sure the menu included something along the lines of caviar and foie gras) and grooved to the tunes of Gwen Stefani and Prince. The hostess with the mostess is cited by Forbes as one of the word’s 50 wealthiest figures.

Just some of the stars that partied with the billionaire and his socialite girlfriend Daria Zhukova at his stunning estate were Orlando Bloom and girlfriend Miranda Kerr, Jay-Z, Kanye West, Lindsay Lohan and Beyoncé, who was hired to formally host the event.

Roman bought the $90 million 70-acre vacation stop in St. Barts in September, breaking the record for the most expensive price tag paid for a private home for 2009.

According to Forbes, the man behind the biggest takeover in British football history dropped out of college and eventually made a fortune in a series of sketchy oil export deals in the early 1900’s. His fortune took off in 1995 when he teamed up with Boris Berezovsky to take over oil giant Sibneft at a fraction of its market value.

In 2003 to 2004 he sold stake in Russian Aluminum to fellow billionaire Oleg Deripaska, who is now ranked 9th in the world. In 2005 Abramovich liquidated his biggest asset, selling 72.6 percent stake in Sibneft to gas titan Gazprom for $13 billion. In 2006 he bought stake in the country’s largest steelmaker, Evraz Group, and early in 2008, a piece of Highland Gold, a U.K. mining company with operations in Russia. He also had his hand in buying U.K. soccer club, Chelsea.
