All in the Name of Art (Dubai): 2010 Edition

Art Dubai is back in its fourth consecutive year, bringing you more than 60 of the world’s emerging and established contemporary art galleries. Art Dubai is known for its diverse geographical connections, but this year it has capitalized on the successful introduction of solo projects, with nearly a third of participants presenting exhibitions from individual artists.

Over half of the galleries are returning for round four of Art Dubai, including Galerie Chantal Crousel, Paris; Sfeir-Semler, Hamburg/Beirut; and Continua, San Gimignano/Beijing/Le Moulin. But there are also plenty of new names to the game, including Peres Projects, Berlin/Los Angeles; Galeria OMR, Mexico City; Paradise Row, London; Carbon 12, Dubai; and Galeria Animal, Santiago. And that’s just some of what’s in store for Art Dubai.

Art Dubai will be introducing something new this year, where selected galleries will showcase and exhibit one to two artists, an initiative by the name of, “Artist focus stands.” These galleries include Rose Issa Projects, London; Green Art Gallery, Dubai; Chemould Prescott Road, Mumbai; Rossi + Rossi, London; and Frey Norris, San Francisco.

Art Dubai wants to bring you a little bit of the past as well, with a new area within the fair devoted to museum-quality painting and sculpture from the 1950’s to 1970’s, providing an important contextual framework to the achievements of contemporary artists. The fair is also a great way for artists to be exposed on the world stage.
“Art Dubai is a strong platform for us to exhibit and sell,” said Chili Hawes, Director, and Elisabeth Lalouschek, Artistic Director of October Gallery in London. “We choose works that will impact on the visual landscape in Dubai and we see the fair as an excellent way of promoting our artists within the region.”

It’s every artist and art lover’s dream. Oh, the things we do in the name of art.
