Lenox Hill Hospital’s Autumn Ball Raises $2.2 million

On November 9, 2009 the elegant Waldorf-Astoria’s Grand Ballroom was the backdrop for the 2009 Lenox Hill Hospital’s Autumn Ball. The evening raised more than $2.2 million dollars, which is truly an outstanding feat considering the economy.

Chairman of the Board of Trustees of Lenox Hill Hospital, William O. Hiltz, gratefully thanked more than 900 guests for their support and saluted the Autumn Ball Vice Chairs: Deborah and Allen Grubman; Pat and Ed Gutman; and Drs. Virgie and Marty Ellington, whose leadership helped to raise the astounding amount.

The evening was intended to salute Dr. Armando Grassi, Chairman Emeritus, Department of Neonatology and Pediatrics and honor his 30 years of remarkable service to Lenox Hill Hospital’s most precious patients. Dr. Grassi was bestowed the hospital’s Medal of Distinction for building a world-class center for newborn babies with life-threatening illnesses.

President and CEO of Lenox Hill Hospital, Gladys George, spoke about the potential changes occurring in the United States in regard to the health care reform debate and its profound impact on health care. George said, “One thing will remain constant is that people will continue to value and seek out high quality health care provided by outstanding physicians in a caring, supportive environment.  This certainly sounds like Lenox Hill Hospital to me.”

Lenox Hill Hospital is a 652-bed acute care facility located on Manhattan’s Upper East Side. It is internationally recognized for excellence in cardiovascular care, orthopedic surgery, sports medicine, neurology and neurosurgery, digestive disorders, maternal and child health, bariatric surgery, ophthalmology and otolaryngology. In the US News and World Report’s annual 2009 repor, Lenox Hill Hospital was ranked among the top 50 hospitals in Heart and Heart Surgery, Digestive Disorders, and Neurology and Neurosurgery.
