Luxury-loving Hamptonites were in for a shock this week as they found out they no longer own the rights to the Hamptons name. Instead, someone thousands of miles away has taken ownership of a variety of Hamptons-related trademarks.
The U.S. Patent and Trademark Office in Washington has just granted Frank Fleischer, a German national who operates a garment factory in Hong Kong, a multitude of Hamptons-related trademarks.
So the next time you’re in Westhampton Beach, Southampton, or even East Hampton, take a look at all of those tourist-targets lining the shops which have been branded with the Hamptons name, and think about the man in Hong Kong who’s making money from those trademarked products from your quaint elite town. Burns a little, doesn’t it?
