Straight-talking chef, Gordon Ramsay, spends a portion of his time rebuilding restaurants that have disastrous kitchens, but now the renowned celebrity chef is having a kitchen nightmare of his own.
Celebrity chef Gordon Ramsay is many things, but subtle is not one of them. The straight-shooting, no-nonsense and incredibly talented chef not only has numerous restaurants, but he also has multiple television shows, including one called Kitchen Nightmares where Ramsay takes it upon himself to save floundering restaurants and their disastrous kitchens before they get shut down. Ironically, Ramsay is now facing some serious issues in one of his New York restaurant locations, Gordon Ramsay at the London, located in the London Hotel.
According to reports, chef Ramsay is being sued by his New York City vendors for close to $100,000. The lawsuit and financial woes facing Ramsay has left him no choice but to transfer ownership of his London Hotel restaurant. This is the third time Ramsay has apparently transferred ownership for his restaurants, with reports noting he has done this before in both Paris and Los Angeles.
According to the Wall Street Journal, Ramsay did make an attempt to redeem some of the owed money by shutting down his Gordon Ramsay at the London lunch service, “removing flowers, and adding a $65 pre-theater prix fixe to attract more customers, yet it is reported that he was still approximately $5,000 short of breaking even each month.”
On November 22, it was official. The London New York City took over as owner and manager of Gordon Ramsay at the London, however the restaurant will be keeping the Ramsay name, as was the case with some of his other properties that had their ownership transferred. The two Michelin stars Gordon Ramsay at the London hold, will also remain, of course. It is presumed that Ramsay will obtain some sort of licensing fee, but it is not expected that the very vocal chef will be seen anywhere near Midtown for the time being.
Chef Ramsay invested approximately $3 million of his own fortune into Gordon Ramsay at the London when it opened up in 2006.
