On November 12th, Glide’s Annual Holiday Benefit honored Reverend Cecil Williams’ 45th Anniversary, and featured Dr. Maya Angelou, Rita Moreno, Alonzo King LINES Ballet, San Francisco Opera Adler Fellows and More.
From the ‘Hood to the House-Glide’s Annual Holiday Benefit for Mo’s Kitchen and Glide’s programs was a special concert at the Opera House, which honored Reverend Cecil Williams’ 45th Anniversary at Glide. The concert was kicked off by the dramatic arrival by bus of the Reverend Williams along with hundreds of youth and adult recipients of various Glide services, including their meals, recovery and job training programs.
Held on Thursday, November 12, 2009-6pm-10pm at the San Francisco Opera House, the event included an arrival of Reverend Williams, Janice Mirikitani, Loco Bloco & 100 plus youth and adult recipients of various Glide services, stage performances from Dr. Maya Angelou, Rita Moreno, Alonzo King LINES Ballet, San Francisco Opera Adler Fellows, members of the San Francisco Opera Orchestra with Nicola Luisotti, San Francisco Opera General Director David Gockley, Second Poet Laureate of San Francisco Janice Mirikitani, Glide Ensemble Choir and Change Band; and Glide’s recovery program participant Charles Houston.
The event followed with a lovely reception where over five levels of the Opera House were filled with lavish hors d’oeuvres, libations, and entertainment by DJ David Harness, The Jaz Sawyer “Youth All-Star Quartet,” and Billy Philadelphia.
VIP guests included Mayor Gavin Newsom, Danny Glover, Irene Scully, Anne Caen, San Francisco Giants Larry Baer, Chris Gardner, George and Charlotte Schultz, Wells Fargo’s Brenda Wright, and many others.
Each year, Glide’s Annual Holiday Festival raises funds for Mo’s Kitchen and Glide’s programs. Mo’s Kitchen serves three meals a day to San Francisco’s poorest residents- nearly one million meals each year.
