On December 2nd, Consul General Peter Rothen and Mrs. Gerlind Rothen welcomed close to 100 members of the Bay Area’s international philanthropic community to an invitation-only cocktail reception and concert in anticipation of the annual “Paint the Town Red Gala” for the American Red Cross Bay Area Chapter on Saturday, March 6, 2010.
Corinna Simon, a talented and well-known Berlin pianist, performed classic German musical selections from Handel and Beethoven before concluding with a tribute to American Gershwin. The evening was made possible by the German Consulate, which provided a stunning venue on Jackson Street, as well as an exceptional assortment of hors d’oeuvres and native-German Franken wines. Consul General Rothen, who is new to his San Francisco post, reflected on the anniversary of the reunification of Germany, the fall of the Berlin Wall and the importance of the Red Cross in the international community.
Guests in attendance included Roberta Economidis and Kelly Murphy, Paint the Town Red Gala co-chairs; Susan Atherton, board chair of the American Red Cross Bay Area Chapter; Harold Brooks, chief executive officer of the chapter; and members of the international consular corps including the Honorable Georges Schmit and Mrs. Huguette Wildschutz of Luxembourg.
Jessica Moment and Sally Fowler of Philanthropist Boutique, Judy Holm of Lynmar Wineries, Ted Murphy of Merrill Lynch, John Cullison of Bank of America and Gwyneth Borden of IBM represented gala sponsors. Gala committee members included Kelly Grimes, Kristina Pollak, Ye-Hui Lu, Beth Schnitzer, Ulrike Steinbach, Kathryn Pellegrini, Lillian Phan and Adam Steinhorn. Upon exiting, guests were entered into a drawing for an official Red Cross Two-Person Disaster Kit, which was won by Zach Georgopoulos.
