Forget real estate and private jets, it looks like true luxury is all in the pocket watches. And if reports of a bad economy are keeping some buyers at bay, other folk are ready to dish out the cash on some pretty interesting toys.
The Patek Philippe Yellow Gold Calibre 89 pocket watch has set a new world record. Sold at $5.068 million at Antiquorium’s 35th Anniversary Sale in Geneva, the watch weighs a hefty 2.5 pounds, has an 18k gold face, and 33 complications. I wonder where one would wear such a pricey timepiece.
The watch was made in honor of the 150th Anniversary of the watchmaker. “We are extremely honored to have sold this exceptional and unique timepiece for the second time in Antiquorum’s history and are thrilled that we have once again achieved a world record price at auction.” Antiquoram Chairman Robert Maron said.
