Gift Ideas: Six Scents Parfums

Once Alan Cumming had a perfume named after him in 2005, it was official – everyone’s got a scent and a marketable one at that.  Even Gerard Butler recently joked he needed a bottled scent to take his career to the next level.  While Britney’s perfume may be a secret guilty pleasure of yours, it’s not really something you can give as a gift – unless it’s a gag gift.

Six Scents Parfums, on the other hand, would make the perfect gift for the sophisticated art-lover in your life that likes to smell delicious.  In its second incarnation, Six Scents is a unique collaboration between perfumeries and artists who together create scents that help raise awareness for a particular charity.  This year, the charity in question is Pro-Natura’s environmental sustainability project and the fragrance experts come from Givaudan.

To create a scent, each artist is paired with a perfumer.  “Collage,” for example, is a collaborative effort between fashion designer Phillip Lim and Natalie Gracia-Cetto with notes of Italian Bergamot, White Pepper, and Juniper Berries.  Then there’s the scent that comes from Henry Holland and Stephen Nilsen, called “Smell,” which has notes of Lilac, Mimosa, and Green Grass.  You can acquire these distinctive fragrances at Apothia (at Fred Segal), Maxfield, TenOverSix, and other local establishments.  Unless you’d rather wait until 2010, when Kim Kardashian’s rumored perfume will be released.
