Overnight Stays in Downtown L.A.

The downtown entertainment multiplex, L.A. Live has been making quite the headlines this year. This summer Haute Living Culinary Ambassador Chef Katsuya Uechi opened his fourth location of Katsuya brand restaurants designed by Philippe Starck in collaboration with Sam Nazarian of SBE. As the celebrated chef commented in his most recent column in the September/October issue of Haute Living:

“This particular venue, located downtown at the L.A. Live entertainment campus, next to the Staples Center and Nokia Theatre, caters to a distinct and laid-back crowd ranging from sports enthusiasts to convention-goers to everyday Los Angeles residents and visitors. The L.A. Live entertainment district is quite impressive, measuring in at four million square feet, housing not only my fourth restaurant, but also movie theaters, music stages, nightclubs, and museums.”

Now Curbed LA is reporting on the rumors that have been swirling regarding a luxury hotel directly across the street from the multimillion-square-foot ‘entertaimentplex.’ Karen Englund, director of sales and marketing for Marriott at LA Live has divulged to the powers that be at Curbed that the hotel space will most likely transform into a Hard Rock, or an Ian Shrager hospitality development. While the Marriott is scheduled to open in March, it is still up in the air as to what will become of the downtown space, although speculations are revolving around Shrager’s 2008 business deal with Marriott for a new brand of hotels under the moniker Edition.
