Philippe Starck Sounds? There’s an App for That.

If you are wondering if iPhone will ever run out of application ideas, the answer is probably not. New apps are continuously being created and cover an incredible array of interests, so the only thing left for you to do is to download and enjoy. With that in mind, it was only a matter of time before Apple and iPhone helped you get a little closer to your favorite designers, and that time is now.

Iconic French designer, Philippe Starck, who has been quoted saying, “I like to open the door to people’s brains” now travels deeper into the depths of our minds in a way he may never have imagined. The new high-concept applications, that just made their way into the iTunes Store, include an app called 24 Hours: The Starck Mix and is an ingenious collaboration between Soundwalk, a company specializing in creative audio walking tours, and Clicmobile, a mobile ad agency. As an audio tribute to designer Philippe Starck, 24 hours: The Starck Mix app streams a 24-hour soundtrack reminiscent of one of the boutique hotel lobbies Starck helped to design, such as Miami Beach’s Delano Hotel and ICON Brickell. The app was created for the upcoming arts festival in Paris.

Philippe Starck has been featured numerous times in Haute Living, including an in-depth look at his ICON Brickell design, and a feature on his unconventional Zikmu speakers. The legendary designer and architect is the mastermind behind some of the most memorable and avant-garde objects and destinations whose purpose is to be “good” before being beautiful, although he tends to accomplish both quite successfully.

The new Starck iPhone app displays the local time while streaming ambient music and sounds using your local time to determine the point to start streaming. The app is free; however it will only be available for 30 days. There is also Web version of the app if you are interested in sampling it before downloading it to your iPhone.
